OwnHealth Choice Self Care Coaching Course
The OwnHealth Choice Self Care Coaching Course sits at the core of
the programme and includes training in communication skills,
Motivational Interviewing and care management. RCN accredited course.
What
does the coaching course entail?
The OwnHealth Self Care Coaching Course is highly interactive and
uses actors and workbooks to both enhance and support the learning
style of the delegates. By drawing together key aspects of the Self
Care Coaching Course, learners are able to competently support and
work with people with long term conditions, directing behavioural
change and enabling patients to be competent self managers.
The course includes the role of the
Care Manager; communication skills and using Motivational
Interviewing techniques to support behavioural change.
- Care management challenges the traditional models of care, and
supports a working partnership between the patient and the Care
Manager. The care management training provides the learner and
ultimately the patient with a model for self management, known as
the Basic 8 Self Management Priorities:

- The communication skills element of the training equips staff
of all levels with the skills they require to express themselves
more effectively, have more influence with colleagues and patients,
and appear more confident in front of others.
- Motivational Interviewing techniques sit at the core of the
Self Care Coaching Course, and by using a directive patient-centred
style of consulting which is designed to help people to explore and
resolve ambivalence about behaviour change.
