Find out how an OwnHealth Care Manager enabled a woman to address
her health related issues.
Janet had previously been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, severe
arthritis and sciatica, all conditions that affected her everyday
life. Janet's different medications left her feeling overwhelmed
and, at times, she forgot to take them correctly. Her arthritis and
sciatica left her unable to climb the stairs to the bathroom and
she often had to resort to washing herself with a wet towel. She
was also afraid to leave her house, even for groceries, which led
to a very poor diet and added to her worries. All of these factors
had Janet feeling like she was losing control and so Janet was
referred to the OwnHealth programme by her GP. When Janet
started the programme, her Care Manager, Sue, immediately gave her
advice that changed the way she controlled her conditions. Janet
recalls,

...before I started the OwnHealth scheme I was completely
unaware of the facilities available to help people like me. Sue
alerted me to the support available and made all the calls to allow
me to install a stair lift and walk-in shower. Sue also advised me
to ask my local pharmacy for my medications to be put into daily
blister packets, making them easier for me to take."
Janet has now been a member of the OwnHealth programme for over two years
and feels much more confident about the future.
